Tea & Kitsch at Maison Bertaux

Looking for somewhere to meet for a casual afternoon tea in central London, my twitter and blogger friends came through with the suggestion of Maison Bertaux in Soho's Greek Street. A quick google revealed a french-style patisserie with a good reputation for delicious goodies and the location fit perfectly so I met a friend there for afternoon tea and chat, back in January.

I loved the faded elegance of the exterior, the unexpectedly kitsch interior and the warm welcome from the London owner - one of two sisters, I believe.

There was a fair choice of teas and the patisseries were indeed superb. My chocolate eclair was fresh and made with good quality cream and chocolate. My friend had a sort of marzipan chocolate concoction in the shape of a green fig - very rich but absolutely to die for.

I'll definitely visit again!

Yes, it is a lovely place. There is something about it that is so charming, I think it almost goes beyond the food.

Ooooh I love this place! Went as part of my birthday pig-out, and taking a friend on Saturday for a treat. Service is always very clipped and a bit unfriendly, but the cakes mroe than make up for it. Huzzah!

Their 'iced tea' is a big winner in summer - it's filled to the brim with berries!

We were very lucky as the service was friendly when we were there! :)
